Each of us works to make our home feel warm and inviting, as if it were a place we would want to visit every day. However, only a few of us have the specialized expertise required to design our tiny abodes in a comfortable, modern style, ensuring that the interior remains fashionable and relevant for many years.
Of course, we at Bright Decor admire professional designers' work, but we also recognize that not everyone has access to a ready-made solution. The good news is that no one can stop us from scouring various interiors for tips on how to make our houses look contemporary and current.
One-style furniture
We're used to furniture being offered in sets, such as a sofa and two armchairs in the same color, or a TV stand, chest of drawers, and shelves in the same style. These sets, on the other hand, appear to be dull and predictable. As a result, if you want to freshen up your interior, purchasing a sofa in a neutral hue that matches the walls and an armchair in a bright color that fits the smaller interior aspects could be a fantastic option.
Bright or wooden-style kitchen
Wooden kitchen facades were popular in the 1980s and 1990s, but they have since fallen out of favor. Today's tendency is for single-color cabinets, preferably in white or gray. As a result, if you want to make your interior more modern, consider changing or repainting your kitchen facade. The latter choice is appropriate if your current kitchen cabinetry is to your liking. You might also take a more drastic approach and purchase new cabinetry.
One chandelier as the main source of light
We've grown accustomed to having only one chandelier and perhaps another tiny lamp near the sofa to light our homes. Lighting, on the other hand, plays a considerably bigger role in today's interiors than it did in the past, and one single chandelier is no longer the main lighting feature. Now, a room can have multiple light sources, and they don't have to all be of the same style. A chandelier, on the other hand, is nothing more than a decorative accent.
Similar wood textures
Oak parquet, oak doors, and oak tiles are frequently used in interior design. Our eyes have become accustomed to this substance, and it has begun to appear conservative over time. Designers suggest combining different types of wood to create a more stylish and distinctive home. Oak parquet is a good match for walnut and ash partitions and furnishings.
Laminate countertops
If you don't want to spend a lot of money, a laminate countertop is the most cost-effective and easy option. However, let's face it: the "time" for this material to be used as a countertop has passed. Natural materials, such as stone, have become more lifelike in recent years (and look more real). However, this is not the most affordable choice, and not everyone can afford it. Fortunately, there are alternatives, such as faux stone or even wood, that are less expensive yet look just as nice.
Linoleum
Because of its durability and ease of installation, this type of flooring has been popular for a long time. Linoleum, on the other hand, is steadily fading from view and can now only be seen in workplaces, not in houses. In terms of flats, a low-cost laminate will look beautiful, especially given that its prices have already fallen down and, as an added advantage, it can survive for a long time.
Standard doors
The standard height of a wall is 80". This is sufficient for living comfortably, but making your doors 8-12" larger than the usual height would seem much more elegant by visually enlarging the room's height. This strategy is now widely employed, and it is important to highlight that extra room will always be in style, regardless of how fashion trends alter. We don't always have the opportunity to replace all of our doors at home, of course. Special panels are erected over the entryway in this example, which dramatically increase the height of the ceiling.
Textured plaster
Waves, patterns, and flowers on the walls created with plastering are both complicated, master-level work and a significant financial investment. However, the fact remains that these vibrant design components do not remain in style for long. While these walls may have appeared opulent in the 2000s, they now simply make us smile. When it comes to designing walls, it's best to keep things simple. This might be anything from bricks to wood paneling to plain painted walls.
A bunch of small photos on the walls
It was not long ago that decorating walls with photos of your life and achievements was trendy. Today larger images are in fashion. That’s why it’s better to hang one big canvas on a wall, rather than dozens of small photos that no one will be able to see properly. Also, it can be a composition consisting of several canvases, but in any case, they should be big. At the same time, it’s not necessary to hang a traditional reproduction of a famous painter’s artwork — a kid’s drawing in a nice frame or a painting from some amateur painter will look good too. After all, its main goal is to reflect the owners’ personal taste.
Wood paneling
Unless you live in a log home, it's past time to update your interior design with less wood. The same material should not be used for your walls, doors, or ceiling – this decor is weighty and darkens the interior. A few ornamental wooden items on one of the walls or decorative barriers will suffice to make the area appear cozier, more trendy, and current.
