How do I choose a perfect rug for my living room?
Three simple tips to select the perfect carpet to embellish the living room layout in the blink of an eye!
Decorative, but not only, the carpet allows you to arrange a cocooning space without partitioning by creating a visual delimitation in the living room. An accessory to be selected carefully to sublimate the living room without a false note! Ideal size, material and style, we tell you everything to choose this piece of aesthetic and warm fabric.
1. The importance of dimensions for your living room carpet
To obtain a harmonious result, it is essential to take into account the context in which the carpet will be installed. The furniture but also the dimensions of the room play an essential role: the carpet must cover a sufficient surface to offer a certain visual balance to the space.
In order not to make a mistake, just take the measurements of your installation in order to note which model will be suitable for your space. When the carpet is integrated into the living room, two options are available to you :
- The first is to frame the furniture that makes up the living room as much as possible. Sofa, armchair, coffee table... the carpet stands out as a second floor covering to mark the passage between a dining area, for example, and the living room space itself.
- You can also choose to highlight the central point of your living room, often marked by the presence of a coffee table. Here too, the carpet must imperatively be more imposing than your furniture to sublimate the latter. Also install an XL carpet that slightly exceeds the width of the sofa for an impeccable and very trendy look.
When carpet models are chosen in unsuitable dimensions, the space seems disproportionate and lacks consistency. The smaller this accessory is, the smaller your interior will look!
2. What shape should I choose for my carpet?
In a living room, the carpet brings different visual effects depending on its dimensions, its color, its material but also its shape.
Classic rectangle, graphic square or soft rounded shape, the carpet allows several effects in your interior decoration.
We favor a design in harmony with the layout of the room to maintain an aesthetic logic. Large living rooms can afford all forms of carpets. On the other hand, it is preferable to follow the drawing of the living room more closely when the latter is narrower or has a singular shape.
We then avoid a round carpet in an elongated space so as not to risk the shrinking effect of this duel of opposite shapes.
3. What style of carpet for the living room?
Plain carpet to highlight a color or patterned to add relief to the living room?
In addition to the visual framing of a space, the carpet also highlights the furniture and decoration according to its color. Its color, which obviously depends primarily on your tastes, can also echo the shades present in your interior to support a decorative style or on the contrary bring a touch of originality if the selected color stands out from the rest.
We notice that the light carpet accentuates the effect of grandeur, while a dark model tends to focus the gaze on the furniture that surrounds it. Your choice can therefore be influenced by your needs in terms of decoration.
Fortunately, there are some styles of carpets that have become essential over the years, and which will allow you to decorate your living room without making a mistake of taste!
- The Berber carpet: ethnically inspired, the Berber carpet is usually made of light wool with darker colored graphic patterns. It finds its place in an industrial-inspired interior as well as Scandinavian or boho.
- The natural fiber carpet: often round, the natural fiber carpet has a pretty neutral color that allows it to adapt to any interior. Its relatively small size is perfectly suitable for a studio or a small living room.
- The graphic carpet: made very trendy with Scandinavian decoration, the graphic carpet is often made of cotton and consists of geometric patterns. Pastel, bright or more classic in color, it is also suitable for any style of decoration. Often lightweight, it is easy to clean and moves easily.

1. Why choose anti-heat curtains?
As their name suggests, anti-heat curtains or thermal curtains are curtains that insulate the interior of a home from outside temperatures. Come again? Thanks to the lining they are equipped with. This acts as a barrier against the cold in winter and against the heat in summer, preventing them from going inside. In short, a smart solution, ideal for small budgets, especially recommended when the windows are aging and they let air through, or when the windows are not equipped with double glazing.
Good to know: Anti-heat curtains are often blackout (they do not let daylight through). Most of them offer excellent sound insulation (that is, they reduce noise pollution from the outside).
2. How to choose anti-heat curtains?
It would be reductive to choose anti-heat curtains only for their usefulness, without dwelling on their style and the decorative possibilities they allow to create inside the house. Are you more of a classic chic style? The velvet or suede curtains are yours, with a satin or iridescent appearance, in sober and elegant colors such as eggplant, celadon green or black. Are you rather trendy modern style? Prefer thermal fleece, wool or PVC curtains in trendy colors such as turquoise blue, fuchsia pink or slate gray.
To this is added the choice of heads, you will prefer, for example, curtains with eyelets for a modern style, curtains with a gathered ribbon for a more classic chic style. Not to mention the choice of the bar or curtain rod. In metal, wood, white, gray, black or golden; here too, it's all a matter of preferences in terms of decorative styles!
Good to know: The price of anti-heat curtains varies between 20 and 100 euros. Count 20 euros for simple thermal cotton curtains, 100 euros for velvet curtains that are both thermal and sound insulating!
3. How to choose the size of anti-heat curtains?
Choosing anti-heat curtains is good. Choosing thermal curtains whose dimensions are adapted to those of your window or bay window is even better! Determining the ideal size is not so complicated, rest assured. Remember only the following :
- Measure the height and width of the location of the curtains.
- Choose curtains whose height is at least 15 cm larger than the height of the location (for the rod).
- Choose curtains whose width is 1.5 - 2 times more than the width of the location (for the pleated effect).
