12 new looks for a lovely bedroom layout
So far in 2022, these are the most popular bedroom trends:
1. BRING BOTANICALS INTO THE ROOM
The botanical trend is a simple approach to bring character and energy to a scheme while remaining fresh and inviting.
Plants and plant motifs are energizing and inspiring, and they have long-lasting appeal in the bedroom. Botanical prints for fabrics and wallpaper are feminine without being overly so, and they work as well in modern, rustic, and classic settings.
An elaborate botanical fabric serves as a bedhead panel as well as a charming focal point.
2. GET RID OF THE CLUTTER WITH CREATIVE STORAGE
Storage has become an important aspect of the design process, and we expect it to remain so as we strive to eliminate the clutter for a peaceful and comfortable bedroom.
'Smart, well-considered bespoke woodwork can truly improve not only the aesthetics of a room, but also generate a sense of tranquility because, if everything has its place and is stored away, the working day can also be stored out of sight and mind,' Emma Green adds.
'Fitted furniture is becoming increasingly popular for a neater finish in the bedroom,' says Doug Haswell, Caple's Furniture Manager. After all, according to studies, individuals spend one-third of their life in bed, so it's critical to make sure you're comfortable. With everything hidden behind closed doors, your sleeping conditions will undoubtedly improve.'
'For a more peaceful look, go with neutral hues and plain door fronts with minimal elaboration.' After all, the less crowded a bedroom is, the better it is for getting a good night's sleep. In fact, bedroom fashions have grown to be sleek for a more professional appearance, thus flush-fronted doors and more neutral colors are preferred. Over time, designs have evolved, and some can even have a built-in finish for a less cluttered look in a bedroom designed for a restful night's sleep.'
3. INSERT THE OUTSIDE
'During the lockdown, many people couldn't get out into nature as much as they'd like, and those who could sought it out even more, because it's so important for our mental health,' says interior designer Emma Green of Emma Green Design.
'This can be accomplished by framing and so emphasizing the views out of windows by using floral wallpaper or incorporating vegetation. This may be observed in the bedroom above, where the soft green wallpaper behind the bed seems to lure the trees outside the window in.'
4. PAY ATTENTION TO THE HEADBOARD
When purchasing your bed and headboard, you should spend as much as your budget allows, as this is a long-term investment. To make the maximum impact, choose the largest size the room will allow. 'Headboards are a low-cost technique to change the look of a place. 'They're essentially alternative forms of art,' said Andrew Martin's specialists.
The headboard has become a spectacular focus point in bedroom decor, thanks to the growth of the boutique hotel and its trending appearance in private design. Look to the Firmdale Hotels for bold color and pattern ideas, and have fun matching your headboard to a wallpaper or throw. Don't be scared to go for an odd look; it simply adds to the character.'
5. COLORED FURNITURE
Colored furniture makes it easy to liven up an area that is otherwise neutral. This is especially useful in bedrooms because children may outgrow or tire of certain colors and furnishings. Tamsin Johnson, a Sydney-based interior designer, created this purposefully complex arrangement, which has a rich green bookcase as the focal point.
'We wanted to design something serene and feminine for this little girl's bedroom, but also something she can grow into,' Tamsin explains. 'The soft mauve linen bedding anchors the space, while the green antique French carved oak bookcase with gentle yellow tints gives a peaceful touch.'
6. USE A COLOR PALETTE WITH BOHO CHIC INSPIRATIONS
Mix home-made and one-of-a-kind purchases to add color and individuality to your bedroom. When it comes to decorating, sometimes you just have to let go of the rules and go with the flow, following your instincts and choosing patterns and items that make you happy.
Choose reds, oranges, yellows, and yellow-based greens from the warm side of the color wheel. This exotic shade of paprika orange gives this bedroom a bohemian vibe, especially when paired with other bohemian bedroom ideas like bamboo, rattan, and wicker furniture, as well as injections of cinnamon red.
Warm tones are brought to a decorating scheme by using neutral shades with a red or yellow basis – overlay multiple tones and colors for extra depth. A cool-side-of-the-color-wheel contrast, such as a bright violet with a rich yellow, might help balance out a warm-side-of-the-color-wheel design.
7. PLACE THE BEDROOM LIGHTING IN THE FOREFRONT
Different levels and types of illumination in a bedroom can assist shift the mood from functional – such as getting ready for work – to relaxing or reading before bedtime. It's also something to think about when picking colors.
When it comes to choosing the ideal lighting for a bedroom, Sarah Barker of Vanrenen GW Designs considers both functionality and aesthetics. 'The lighting should be dim and moody, yet it is necessary to be able to read.' We frequently utilize little wall lights next to the bed for additional beautiful light because I am not a fan of above lighting in bedrooms.'
8. WHEN IT COMES TO COLOR, BE CONFIDENT
Choosing the correct color for a room can be difficult. Professionals sometimes take a long time to make a decision, even if they have a lot of experience. There's a lot to think about: the space's size and shape, the natural light available and its direction, who it's for, and so on.
Morrisstudio's Tom Morris notes, 'A huge space can typically accommodate a blanket of color that works with both north- and south-facing light.' 'I tone down the colors in the furniture if the wall colors are strong, or vice versa.'
Consider earthy tones of red if you enjoy (or need) a little pep in your step in the morning. These orange-red colors are both invigorating and romantic, despite not being usually thought of as one of the best bedroom colors.
9. ART CAN BE USED AS A BACKBONE FOR YOUR SCHEME
A bedroom is the most private and intimate location in the house, allowing you to completely relax and be yourself. As a result, art plays a particularly important role in this context. A cherished piece of art is a traditional beginning point for a color palette in a bedroom. Make this your color inspiration - play about with the hues, pick two or three, and go from there.
Interior designer Kate Guinness, who sourced the rug in Morocco, adds, "We designed this lively girl's bedroom to compliment the client's art collection."
10. EXPAND YOUR HEADBOARD
Grand, colossal headboard concepts have been popular for a time, but the trend is changing. Glossy monotone textures have been replaced by colorful matt patterns, and shapes have become more sophisticated. Curves and free-form asymmetrical pieces that are nearly works of art in their own right have supplanted the rectangle. Before you place your purchase, find an upholsterer with headboard experience and discuss your ideas for shapes, sizes, and materials.
11. PERFECTLY LAYER YOUR BEDROOM
Whether it's tonal variations of color on different surfaces, a combination of patterns that playfully explore a certain palette, or a dynamic blend of textures, the bedroom of 2022 is all about layering. A wonderfully attractive space that is the last thing you see at night and the first thing you see the next day can be created with just two or three versions of each.
'Interest and plenty of subtle detailing are added to the room with the use of trims on the curtains and even on furniture,' says interior designer Katharine Paravicini. Other textures, such as reeded bedside tables, brass wall lights, ceramic lamps, or a rattan ceiling light, are also used.'
12. USE BLUE WITH CONFIDENCE
In 2022, if you want to create a relaxing ambiance in your main bedroom, blue – in all of its forms – could be the answer.
'The inky teal is a gorgeous color that instantly seems sophisticated and serene,' says Katie Lion of Kitesgrove, who picked blues for this small but soothing area. We didn't want it to take over the room, so we kept it to the headboard, cushions, and built-in cupboards, and used a lighter blue (Farrow & Ball's Skylight) for the walls and ceiling, which helps the space feel lighter and balances out the darker tones.'
Katie used space-saving techniques like wall lights (Arteriors' Padma sconce with wicker shade) to generate more surface area on bedside shelves and hidden under-bed storage.
